Point-to-point

A point-to-point is a form of horseracing over fences for hunting horses and amateur riders. In Ireland, where the sport is open to licensed - i.e. professional - trainers, many of the horses will appear in these races before they compete in National Hunt races.

Flat racing

Flat racing is a form of horse racing which is run on a level racecourse. It is run over a predetermined distance and is either a test of speed, stamina or both, whilst the skill of the jockey is determined by his ability to restrain the horse or urge it on.

Winter conditions mostly give hard and slippery surfaces for the horse to walk on. Snow, ice and frozen ground are the factors that you have to participate on. The first step to prevent slipping is adding 2 widia pins to the heels of the front and hind shoes.
