A team of 4 horses in a combined driving contest

Self confidence and attention is basic

Combined driving is involving carriage driving. In this discipline, the driver sits on a vehicle drawn by a single horse, a pair or a team of four. The sport has three phases: dressage, cross-country marathon and obstacle cone driving, and is most similar to the mounted equestrian sport of eventing.

Working terrain
Grass, gravel, asphalt

Rest place/daily stay
Box or paddock

Horse characteristics
Sporty warmblood horse, a keen mover with good nerves.  Modern driving horses tend to be horses with a short barrel and a strong acceleration from the hindquarters. The horses are of average height and are agile and fast in an obstacle race.

Horses behaviour
Driving horses should have a balanced, self confident and attentive basic character. When shoeing, these horses mainly prove to be uncomplicated because their usage involves contact with the legs and hooves.

Shoeing location
Driving horses can be shod at the usual shoeing places.
