The Hoofcare Group

The Hoofcare Group is embarking on a major new era in its development with its entry into the horseshoe market. So far, the market reaction in all countries in which we have begun activities in this sector has been very positive, with sales growing much faster than expected. Our current focus is to supply high quality, standardized shoes to markets where most shoes are either hand made, or produced in a very rudimentary fashion by small local suppliers. The strategy behind this approach is that the higher the quality of the shoe, the easier the work of the farrier becomes, and therefore the more demanding he will be as to the quality of the nails he uses.
A secondary effect is that by better shoeing the horse, the owner will get more use out of his animal and consequently will be likely to shoe more often. Over 10 year period in

Colombia, for example, the market grew by more than 30% thanks to improved product quality and to a parallel consumer information campaign undertaken by Emcoclavos. Our objective is to focus strongly on teaching, product quality and on broadening our product line further to intensify and improve our contacts with the markets. We believe that in such a small, stagnant market, this is the most productive approach.
Another new product line, farrier tools, has also been added, with great success. First introduced in the beginning of 1996 we have still not been able to satisfy the demand. Although this is a small market, it is interesting because it offers a direct and rich contact with horse-shoers. With the current additions to the program we expect to increase our global turnover in this field.
